Superb Virgin and Child, an old carved wooden sculpture, a devotional piece of great softness and beautiful craftsmanship. The Virgin is depicted standing, holding the Child Jesus, with ample and harmonious drapery and a delicately idealised face. The whole exudes a calm and elegant presence, typical of good workshops from the late 17th or 18th century. Authentic antique sculpture. Solid wood, traditional hollowing. Deep old patina. Very fine quality of modelling. The crown is added (different wood), a common practice in old devotional statuary: it may have been added or replaced later without altering the sculpture.
