Signed artwork, dated 1987 and numbered 6 of 7 on the back. Condition: Good overall condition, some scratches, dusty. The blue halogen bulb needs testing. A word about the artwork: This wall lamp is composed of four lozenges treated in three dimensions and assembled to create the illusion of a flattened geometric perspective of four square panels. It is a luminous sculpture characteristic of the artist's "Space" style. Biography: Jean Allemand is a French painter, sculptor, and designer. Born in Toulon on July 21, 1948, he is the co-founder of the Space group, a pioneer in 3D image research. Settling in Paris in 1967, after studying mathematics and working at IBM, he became interested in the representation of space. From 1970 onwards, he participated in various exhibitions, and it was at the "Grands et Jeunes d'aujourd'hui" (Greats and Young People of Today) exhibition in 1972 that he met Maxime Defert and Michel Guéranger, who shared his research on the representation of space. From 1984, his interest in three-dimensionality led him to design furniture, and then, from 1988, complete interiors for his villas in Los Angeles. Among his emblematic creations is the furniture for the 1 p.m. news broadcast on TF1 for the renowned presenter Yves Mourousi. This numbered and signed wall lamp is a prime example of his style. In a questionnaire from the Centre Georges-Pompidou, Jean Allemand defined himself not as a painter or sculptor, but as a creator of environments. He explained that the space he seeks to represent is primarily an interior space, and that his works possess a meditative dimension. His work is recognized and preserved in public collections, notably at the FRAC – Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain d’Île-de-France, testifying to his major contribution to French design and contemporary art.
