Sideboard or buffet designed by Jules Wabbes for Le Mobilier Universel, Belgium, circa 1960. Floating top made of characteristic wooden slats by Wabbes, with a gunmetal frame and handles. Two black lacquered sliding doors open to separate compartments, with an adjustable height shelf. The top rests on a gunmetal frame. Jules Wabbes was a Belgian furniture designer and interior architect. Born in Saint-Gilles, Belgium, Wabbes began his career as an actor and, after several other jobs, eventually opened an antiques and decoration shop in Brussels. He created his own furniture in a modernist style and was chosen by several Belgian administrations to design and create functional furniture. All his works are based on the expression of pure quality with excellent materials (raw wood, bronze, brass, chrome-plated steel). Very good vintage condition. The cabinet doors, rails, and frame are in original condition.
