Elegant teak and metal daybed by friso kramer for auping netherlands 1960s. Both andre cordemeijer and friso kramer were commissioned by auping during the 60s to design mass modern beds for the expanding households in the netherlands. They did so and auping produced these beds during 20 decennia and they were a massive success. The designs resemble a strong minimalism with clean lines and a simple set up. The combination of teak with dark grey metal looks timeless. The beds are built very solid and even after 60 years of service they are still perfectly usable. Some of these designs are now very much sought after; such as the cleopatra from cordemeijer, and the couchette, ariadne and euroika from kramer. The ariadne daybed here presents a minimalist design whereby the bend metal moves upwards at the outer ends of the bed. In between the teak wood strip on either side. The fixed feet follow the same bend pattern as the bed and are placed on the near outer edge creating some good stance for the bed. The bed is in good overall condition with some superficial and small traces of use. The bed is fully upholstered with mattress, fabric sleeve and roll pillow in light grey-blue satin fabric.
