Rare old photograph presenting an ambrotype on double curved glass signed ev and dated 1881 in red lower right. This portrait features a positive image of a portrait on a glass plate painted on the reverse to enhance its contrast and provide color. This portrait presents 2 different curved glasses. The first on which is placed the albumen print painted on the reverse based on dark colors then a second glass painted in a light beige to lighten the man's emptying. Superb work this late 19th century process was colored by hand to give the appearance of a painting. The whole is presented in a beautiful period frame in gilded and carved wood. It has a small restoration at the top left. The first glass has a slight, barely visible crack. The frame is fitted with its original hook. Dimensions: - height of 18.7 cm - width of 15.3 cm - depth (without the hook) of 3.0 cm weight of 333 grams very careful and tracked shipping.
