Dromedary saddle of touareg of niger in polychrome leather, brass, wood and goat hair. Late nineteenth century from north africa. Good general condition. This type of cruciform pommel saddle is used by the tuaregs to harness camels, which are considered in the sahara region to be the most prestigious animals. Among the tuaregs, the emerald green of leather, obtained from copper oxides, is a noble color, and also a symbol of protection. The saddle is designed to carry the various travel bags suspended from the sides of the camel.
