Alexander "sandy" calder (july 22, 1898 – november 11, 1976) was an american sculptor and painter, born july 22, 1898 in new york.il is best known for his mobiles so named on the proposal of marcel duchamp during their exhibition in paris in 1932 at the galerie vignon, his assemblages of forms animated by the movements of the air, then his stabiles.came into contact with representatives of the parisian artistic avant-garde such as joan miró, jean cocteau, man ray, robert desnos, fernand léger, le corbusier, theo van doesburg, and especially piet mondrian, who will have a great artistic influence on him, from 1930, calder does not abandon the wire with which he "drew" to adopt a completely abstract style7, but he added other more abstract forms to it.
