Mario Avati (1921-2009) was a French painter and engraver of Monegasque origin, considered one of the great contemporary masters of the manière noire (mezzotint). He dedicated a significant part of his work to still life, working with remarkable mastery of deep blacks, light, and volumes. His works are included in numerous international public collections. A very beautiful original print titled "Citrons et limons, " created in 1970 using the technique of manière noire in colour. A particularly characteristic still life of Avati's universe: a bowl of fruit stands out against an almost black background, illuminated by the yellows and greens of the lemons. A very beautiful effect of depth and light. The work is signed AVATI and dated '70 in pencil at the bottom right, titled "Citrons & Limons" in the centre, and numbered 5/65 at the bottom left. The work is listed in the catalogue raisonné of Mario Avati under reference Passeron no. 420. Dimensions of the work visible: 29 × 23.5 cm. Dimensions with frame: 48.5 × 43 cm. Presented under glass in a simple black frame with a mount.
