Set of 2 Georg Thams armchairs for Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik in teak, Denmark 1960

Exceptionally beautiful set of two Danish armchairs, designed by Georg Thams for Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik in the 1960s. The design is characterised by the strong yet particularly refined construction in solid teak. The side frames are almost entirely constructed as one sculptural form: the front legs merge into the armrests, while the rear legs extend high to support the back cushion. Especially the organically shaped joints and rounded transitions demonstrate the high level of Danish craftsmanship. Despite the relatively robust teak, the design is notably open. The space between the frame, seat, and back gives the armchairs a light appearance and ensures the wood's shape is visible from every angle. The loose seat and back cushions are upholstered in a subdued green furniture fabric. The tufted cushions provide the armchairs with a comfortable, relaxed seat and form a beautiful contrast with the warm colour of the teak. Both armchairs have been professionally restored and are in very good condition. The solid teak has been carefully treated, preserving the original appearance and natural wood structure. Dimensions are as follows: height 80 cm, width 75 cm, depth 80 cm. Seat height 43 cm.
