Original and elegant armchair from the cambier brothers' factory (belgium). Late 19th century. Armchair in thermo-bent wood, circular seat with a palette motif h 78 cm X. H 54 com no brand but a characteristic detail of the cambier house: the patented crosspiece (see photo). In 1869, thonet lost its monopoly on the manufacture of steam-curved wooden furniture: rival firms multiplied and copied the most popular models. J. & j. Kohn, cambier... In 1880, the cambier brothers developed the company founded by their father emmanuel. The small cabinetmaking workshop of the beginnings would become a modern factory which employed 350 workers in 1888 and 532 during the industrial census of 1896. This growth was based, like thonet, on the mass production of bentwood chairs.
