Modernist Art Deco armchair

The armchair was born in France in the 1930s, at a time when Art Deco was shedding its ornaments to adopt a more architectural language. Its structure, made of bold lines and geometric volumes, evokes the work of the Union of Modern Artists and heralds the furniture of René Gabriel. The armchair has recently been dressed in a natural cowhide whose brown, black, and ivory hues interact with the warmth of the wood. This intervention, far from distorting the seat, gives it a new, almost timeless presence, straddling the line between French Art Deco and a more contemporary aesthetic. The contrast between the rigour of its design and the organic material of its upholstery creates a unique object, difficult to classify, yet immediately endearing. A piece that fits well in both a modernist interior and a more minimal or brutalist decor. Dimensions: Width 63.5 cm, Total height 91 cm, Seat height 38 cm, Depth 72 cm Old wooden structure. Upholstery restored later, with contemporary strapping and foam.
