"Victory" weekender by Michel Boyer for Rouve, c.1988
French work, c.1988. H 149.5 X W 88 X D 50 cm. Pearwood veneer, black lacquered metal, and chrome metal. Very good condition. Seven drawers in pearwood veneer, with vertical chrome metal handles aligned from one drawer to the next, creating a single line along the entire height. The case rests on a cross base, held between four black lacquered metal spindles finished with chrome. Interior architect Michel Boyer (1935-2011) designed the Rothschild bank in Paris, then the French embassies in Washington and BrasÃlia. He designed the furniture for his projects and distributed it himself through Galerie Rouve. Pearwood is paired with chrome or lacquered metal: this contrast between light wood and metal runs throughout his work. Model "Victoire, " published by Rouve around 1988. Each drawer opens the full width of the case, and the spindles, detached from the sides, allow the piece to be viewed from both profile and front.
