Vintage dessert plate in fine earthenware with a rich polychrome decoration: a large central paisley motif — this famous tear-shaped design of oriental origin — on a white background scattered with pink and red flowers and bluish foliage with generous branches. The scalloped border, highlighted by a dark rim and a decoration of stylised acanthus leaves, elegantly frames the whole. The reverse bears the authentic mark of the manufacturer: Gien France — Guaranteed unalterable decoration — Fired at 1150° — Hand-painted. The Faïencerie de Gien was founded in 1821 in Loiret by the English entrepreneur Thomas Hulm. Located in the former buildings of a royal convent, it quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious fine earthenware manufacturers in France. Renowned for the richness of its hand-painted decorations, fired at high temperatures to ensure their durability, it draws inspiration from oriental, Renaissance, and French decorative arts, and among its most famous collections are floral, hunting, and historical decorations. A plate of character, as beautiful hanging on the wall as it is used on the table.
