Ceramic plate made by Marie-Madeleine Jolly (1914-1963) in the late 1950s. A botany enthusiast, the artist, along with her husband Philippe Madeline, settled in Villefranche-sur-Mer in the south of France, creating designs themed around flowers. Philippe Madeline made the moulds. The plate for sale features thistles. Incised into the material, the design adds relief to the plate. It is glazed in a slightly pinkish white. The artist couple is also known for having trained Jean Cocteau in their workshop from 1957 to 1963, where he was able to conceive his creations (see the attached article). In very good condition. A rare unique piece. The signature is embossed under the piece MM Jolly for Marie-Madeleine Jolly. Dimensions: height 2 cm, diameter 19.5 cm. Weight without packaging: 469 g.
