rare model d-2017 ‘eclipse’ adjustable floor lamp by evert jelles for raak amsterdam, the netherlands, 1960s. exceptionally rare model d-2017 ‘eclipse’ floor lamp designed by evert jelles for raak amsterdam in the 1960s. its striking space age composition combines a geometric chrome-plated frame with a sculptural shade formed from two brushed-metal hemispheres. the open rectangular base and slender construction give this substantial floor lamp a remarkably light and architectural appearance. the two halves of the shade can be rotated independently, allowing the light to be sculpted into a wide variety of dramatic patterns across the wall and ceiling. from a broad indirect glow to a sharply defined graphic effect, each position changes both the character of the lamp and the atmosphere of the room. the height can also be adjusted, making the eclipse as functional as it is visually spectacular. the lamp is in very good vintage condition, with only minor signs of age and use. the adjustment mechanisms function correctly, and the original raak amsterdam label is still present. a serious and highly collectible piece of dutch lighting design for the discerning design enthusiast.
