Meubelfabriek Oisterwijk wall mirror in solid oak, Oisterwijk, Netherlands, 1970s. This is a large wall mirror from Meubelfabriek Oisterwijk in washed solid oak. The mirror features a very simple yet elegant design, reminiscent of the works of the French designer duo Guillerme and Chambron, which generally applies to the entire production of Meubelfabriek Oisterwijk. The well-known factory produced a wide range of furniture from the 1960s, including chairs, tables, and cabinets, all in washed solid oak. They are characterised by robust frames and delicate woodworking that highlights the natural beauty of the wood, with elegantly carved details and thoughtful proportions. A production rooted in tradition but undeniably modern. At its peak, everyone in the Netherlands knew Meubelfabriek Oisterwijk, to the extent that the name of the town almost became synonymous with the furniture. The company had several large Dutch showrooms and also engaged in popular advertising in newspapers and on television. The factory was a significant employer in the region and fostered a strong community spirit among employees, many of whom spent their entire careers there, passing on their skills and know-how to the next generations. In the second half of the 20th century, Meubelfabriek Oisterwijk faced the challenges of mass production and globalisation before ultimately closing. This particular mirror comes from the home of a former employee and was likely personally made by him. It is in good condition with a slight haze and some wear on the mirror glass.
