Charming oil on canvas depicting a bucolic scene in which two cows are peacefully drinking at the edge of a stream, under the watchful eye of a shepherd standing on the bank. The artist, e. Franc (signature lower right), displays delicate expertise in rendering the reflections in the water, the vaporous sky and the nuances of the rural landscape. The composition, balanced and poetic, is fully in line with the realist tradition of the french school of the late 19th century, heir to barbizon. The painting is presented in a gilded wood frame with a red groove, sober but refined, which highlights the work while respecting its rustic spirit. Dimensions: canvas: 40 X 32 cm frame: 47 X 39 cm condition: the work presents some localized rubbing and lack of material, visible in particular in the grassy areas in the foreground. These alterations remain discreet and do not affect the readability of the scene. The frame is in good condition with slight signs of age.
