Italian green glass tumblers with air bubble inclusions, 1970s

Italian tumblers in rich green coloured glass, produced during the 1970s. Distinctive air inclusions trapped within the thick walls give each piece an individual character; tiny bubbles distributed irregularly create a sense of depth that shifts with changing light. The form combines simplicity with the expressive quality typical of Italian design from that decade. A cylindrical body tapering slightly toward the base rests on a more substantial foot that provides stability. Wall thickness varies throughout; glass accumulates more densely at the bottom, gradually transitioning to a thinner structure near the rim. It is within this mass of material that the air bubbles are captured, not as a production flaw but as an intentional decorative effect. Italian glassmaking in the 1970s was marked by experimentation with colour and texture. Everyday objects — tumblers, carafes, ashtrays — became vehicles for formal exploration. Coloured glass with controlled inclusions represents a movement where artisanal imperfection was transformed into aesthetic value, bridging craft heritage with modern sensibility. These tumblers work equally well for daily use or as collectible pieces displayed on a shelf or in a glass-fronted cabinet. Their compact dimensions fit comfortably in the hand, while the intense green will enliven any table setting or home bar arrangement. Good condition with no significant flaws.
