Description
These two very pretty beer mugs can also make perfect mugs for morning coffee. They are signed underneath, by hand intaglio in the material “grès d’alsace krumeich remmy betschdorf”. It's model 363 (hollowed underneath too). Hubert krumeich-remmy joined the family pottery in 1896 and became the most important potter in betschdorf, the capital of “gray and blue” pottery. He died in 1944 without issue. These tankards therefore date from before 1944 because it seems that his pottery stopped after his disappearance, perhaps even from the 1920s given the art nouveau style decor. If these tankards are almost identical (only the cobalt blue is very slightly darker on one), they were not made by the same artisan turner (the pottery obviously employed several artisan potters) because the writing underneath does not is not the same. They have a pretty design, slightly conical, tighter at the top, a beautiful plant decoration representing hops and obviously the magnificent gray and cobalt blue colors typical of betschdorf salt stoneware. They are in very good condition, no cracks, no chips, not even a chip, which is still quite incredible for ceramics of this age! Proof of the hardness and resistance of sandstone to alsace salt. They measure 11 cm in height, 8 cm in diameter at the base, 7 cm in diameter at the opening, approximately 12 cm in width including the handle.
