Jean gillon 'jangada' lounge chair and ottoman in tropical wood and leather, brazil, ca. 1960s. Designed by the iconic jean gillon, this chair and footstool was named the 'jangada' chair after the small, rustic fishing boats used by fishermen along brazil's northern coast and is the epitome of 'functional art'. Highly sought after by collectors and designers, this jangada chair and ottoman set features new leather upholstery, hand-stitched and forged by expert craftsmen and fitted with new medium-density foam for maximum comfort. The frames, made of solid brazilian tropical wood, are absolutely enchanting in natural light and contrast perfectly with the camel-colored leather. Forged into astonishing shapes, complete with fishnet seat supports (in 100% original, vintage condition), it is easy to see the source of inspiration for gillon when designing this truly extraordinary chair. The nets have signs of wear. Ideal for studios, museums and the home, this remarkable set blends seamlessly with a range of design backgrounds, from mcm to minimalism to brutalism.
