Round dining table from the 'Eros' series designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper. White Carrara marble. The table has no joints, featuring a single locking system that is stabilised by the weight of the marble. Famous for his refined and controlled approach to materials, the Italian architect, sculptor, and designer Angelo Mangiarotti was born in 1921 in Milan. After graduating in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1948, he moved to the United States in 1953. There, he was a visiting professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology and met Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), Walter Gropius (1883-1969), Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969), and Konrad Wachsmann (1901-1980), the great architects who would greatly influence his work thereafter. In 1955, Angelo Mangiarotti returned to Milan and opened his architecture firm with Italian architect Bruno Morasutti (1920-2008). The duo designed industrial, residential, and cultural institutions, such as the Via Cantore Skyscraper (1955) in Genoa and the Mater Misericordiae Church (1957) in Milan. Their partnership ended in 1960. From 1963 to 1990, Angelo Mangiarotti was a lecturer at several renowned schools of architecture and design, both in Italy and abroad. In 1989, he founded Mangiarotti & Associates in Tokyo. From 1989 to 1992, he served as creative director at Colle Cristalleria.
