A rare antique from france, a rustic pair of mid to late 19th century barware café coffee cups known as brulot. This smaller size is becoming harder to find. The saucers are perhaps not original to the cups, the pink is a slightly different shade. Please see photos for clarity. These are smaller than the style I usually find, they are more of a demi-tasse size. They are made of very thick and heavy white porcelain, good for anyone who likes their coffee to remain hot. It has smooth sides and the base is very thick. The interesting fact about brulot cups is when turned upside down there is a hollow in the underside. This was used for a tot of alcohol to be poured into so that when the coffee was finished the drinker could follow it along with a whisky, rum, or most likely a french 'eau de vie'. Plain white with pink and gold bands around the rim, in various stages of wear. There are marks from previous use and fabrication process, especially faded paint around the rim and base. They are not chipped nor cracked. Please look at photos carefully for further description. Height: 7.1cm/2.8 inches. Diameter at rim: 6.7cm/2.6 inches. Each cup weighs around 200g each.
