Description: A museum-quality collectible piece. This original engraving is not just a simple botanical plate; it is a fragment of the History of Arts under Louis XIV. The Artist & The History: Signed by Nicolas Robert (1614-1685), considered the greatest naturalist painter of the Grand Siècle. As the King's ordinary painter, he is famous for creating the renowned "Vélins du Roi" preserved at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle. This plate, the Lilio-narcissus Japonicus (Lily-Narcissus), comes from the prestigious "Recueil des plantes" engraved by order of the King for the Royal Academy of Sciences. The Technical Expertise: Technique: Etching and burin on copper. The line work is of surgical precision, capturing the texture of the bulb and the translucency of the petals with absolute mastery. Support: An old print on vergé paper. When holding the sheet up to the light, you will distinguish the vergéures (lines of the paper) and the characteristic texture of handmade papers from the period. Authenticity: Signature "N. Robert del. Et scul." on the plate. For which interior This is a work for an informed collector. It is not just hung for decoration, but to be admired. It will enhance a stylish office, an entrance above an antique console, or bring a touch of historical nobility to a contemporary minimalist interior.
