Oil painting on forest military panel signed Pierre Petit Gérard dated 1920

Superb painting oil on panel double sided on one side a forest and on the other a soldier signed and dated petit gérard 1920 for pierre petit gérard - pierre petit gérard was born in strasbourg in 1852. Son of the glass painter baptiste petit gérard, c it’s quite natural that he gravitates toward the arts. Student at the fine arts in paris with gérome as master. Volunteered in 1870 then in 14, he spent two years on the front in alsace and the vosges as an army painter. He died in 1933. Artist side having appeared on numerous occasions at auction dimensions: 16 X 24 cm small losses and scratches - good condition.
