Geza szegedi molnar (1906-1970) oil on canvas "landscape" signed lower right and dated 1965 60.5 X 81 cm géza molnár szegedi (szeged, february 21, 1906 – szombathely, november 10, 1970) hungarian painter, father of the playwright géza molnár szegedi. He graduated from the college of fine arts in 1930, his teachers were gyula rudnay and andor dudits. After that, he worked as a teaching assistant at the college. He mainly created frescoes; in 1928 he received the benczúr prize for one of his drawings. In 1931, he obtained a scholarship from the hungarian academy in rome. Returning from abroad, he created frescoes and altarpieces for the greek-catholic church of csegöld in 1932 and nyírbátor in 1937-38. He regularly presents his works in exhibitions at műcsarnok and the salon national. He painted his main work, the 21 frescoes of the church of st. József munkás wekerlei in kispest on 300 m² in 1940-41. Between 1952 and 1959, he worked on the frescoes, altarpieces and stations of the cross of the greek-catholic church of debrecen, unique in its kind, because there are no images of stations in byzantine churches. Priest istván árkosy helped molnár szegedi become a painter of the archdiocese of hajdúdorog. In 1953-1954 he created frescoes and altarpieces in the greek catholic church of nyírábrány, nyírpilis in 1955, nyíregyháza in 1956, tímár in 1957 and nyíradony in 1958. Later, due to the deterioration of his health, he lived isolated and worked until his death. Some of his religious paintings are kept in the christian museum in esztergom. One of his last self-portraits is in the hungarian national museum. He presented his paintings in his last years at international exhibitions and won a prize with one of his paintings in monaco in 1967.
