Fun 2 DM mother-of-pearl suspension by Verner Panton

Structure of chrome metal, and cascade of mother-of-pearl discs, suspended by a cable. The famous Fun suspension was created in 1964 in Switzerland by Verner Panton. A veritable luminous sculpture, in perpetual motion, reflects the light and imposes a slight sound presence with its lozenges colliding... A real call to relaxation. Verner Panton, born on February 13, 1926 in Gentofte and died on September 5, 1998 in Copenhagen, is a Danish designer, considered one of the most influential of the 20th century. Panton liked to develop variations on the same theme. Starting from the possibilities of exploiting the characteristics of natural materials, he made mother-of-pearl discs for a series of luminiares, the "Fun" models, often also called "Mother of Pearl ". Clinging to chains and clustered around a light source, these semi-translucent and satin discs sparkled and diffused a magical light. The FUN range (1964) includes suspensions, streetlights and table lamps, the discs being either grouped in a mass or suspended from two or three concentric rings, storied in circles of increasing diameter to give the impression of an iridescent cascade.
