A very beautiful set of 12 earthenware plates from Gien, series “The Adventures of the Farmer – Story in Six Plates”, a gastronomic collection published by the famous Faïencerie de Gien, France. The lot includes two complementary series: – 6 plates “The Cheeses / The Adventures of the Cheesemonger”: Brie, Cœur de Bray, Valençay, Roquefort, Camembert, Chabichou. (diameter 20.5cm) – 6 plates “The Farm / The Adventures of the Farmer”: Rabbit, Guinea Fowl, Duck, Hen, Rooster, Turkey. (Dimensions 30.5x22cm) Each plate features a humorous and gastronomic design, with old typography, a central coloured illustration, and a black/red border. The reverse bears the Gien France mark, the mention Le Collectionneur, as well as hand-painted indications, firing at 1150°, and a guaranteed unalterable decoration. The Faïencerie de Gien, founded in 1821 in the Loire Valley, is one of the great French earthenware manufacturers. This vintage series is part of the decorative and gastronomic collections of the house, highly sought after for their retro charm and French bistro spirit.
