Large brushed steel and glass dining table, important design. The table has no markings and it's attributed to model Doge designed by famous and very influential Italian architect and designer Carlo Scarpa in 1968. The Doge Table was originally developed by Carlo Scarpa in 1968 for Dino Gavina, a leading Italian design retailer. Gavina pushed Scarpa to adapt the table from its original wood and marble palette to metal and glass, highlighting beauty of its base. The design marks a pivotal moment for Scarpa--the table highlights rather than hides the screws that hold it in place, and its form is tailored to the constraints of mass production. As such it marks Scarpa's arrival as a proper industrial designer. The table is an icon of Italian design and represents a manifesto of the "Ultrarazionale" movement, which aimed to overcome the limits of rationalism by recovering the aesthetic values of tradition. This table was the first product with which Simon. Later bought by Cassina, began its activity in 1968. This design was awarded the Compasso D'Oro in 1979. The production was discontinued in the 1990s. Recently, Cassina started to manufacture it again. The table is made of thick brushed and lacquered steel and clear glass and is very heavy. This table was in all likelihood manufactured in the 1980s and has wear to its legs (some small areas of corrosion, surfaces scratches on one end of the metal base). It comes with all original hardware and with original glass. The glass top has one small chip to the edge. The steel frame weight around 150 kg and can be easily fully disassembled for delivery. The glass weights as well around 150 kg. It will be professionally packed for the delivery. Literature: Gramigna G., Repertorio del Design Italiano1950-2000, Allemandi, 2011, pag. 160.
