German Postmodern Floor Lamp Vela Sail by A. Engbert and Franz Ringelhan for Rolf Benz, 1990s

Vintage design. Postmodern floor lamp by Rolf Benz, designed by A. Engbert and F. Ringelhan in 1990. The design clearly draws inspiration from the maritime world: an abstract sailboat with an exaggerated sail in size and shape. The sail is designed as an elliptical tube and serves as a diffuser. The aluminium base is shaped like a boat hull. The diffuser is mounted at a slight angle and is separated from the base. The light source in the base shines upwards into the diffuser. The light also emanates downwards through a transparent blue acrylic disc, creating a subtle blue glow at the junction between the base and the sail. The lamp is equipped with a dimmer on the cord. It is in very good condition with signs of use and a patina.
