This pair of typical Chiavari chairs with armrests was designed by Gaetano Descalzi in the city of Chiavari in Italy, where they have been produced since then in various models. Made of mahogany-colored beech and covered in satin fabric. Chiavari was created in 1807 by the carpenter Chiavari Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi, who behind the invitation of the Marquis Stefano Rivarola, reworked some models of French chairs linked to the Empire style, simplifying the decorative Apparatus and reducing the sections of the structural elements. The chair was successful and soon many producers were born in Chiavari and neighboring municipalities: at the death of Gaetano Descalzi in 1855, there were about 600 workers employed in the sector. Chiavarina was appreciated by Carlo Alberto di Savoia, Napoleone III and by the sculptor Antonio Canova.
