Set of four nesting tables made by paul guth around 1900, signature marquetry in the decoration (see image). Typical floral art nouveau décor, waterscape, pond, iris, willows and characters... Very stable and in very good condition, note a small lack of veneer and a crack (details see arrows in red on the last 2 images). Biography: Paul guth, pseudonym of auguste guillaume guth, was a french cabinetmaker, born in 1878 in oron and died in 1918 in laxou. He settled around 1903 in nancy where he opened his furniture factory in the movement of the school of nancy (louis majorelle, emile gallé, eugène vallin... Its production consists of many small inlaid pieces of art nouveau style furniture (consoles, harnesses, tea tables...) and larger furniture, such as beds or desks. His furniture is usually signed in paul guth marquetry. The school of nancy is the spearhead of art nouveau in france, whose essential inspiration is to be found in plant forms (ginkgo, iris, lily, umbel, giant hogweed, water lily, thistle, cucurbit...) and animal (dragonflies, butterflies...). This alliance is based on a search for advanced use in glassware, ironwork, steel, wood, to put beauty in the hands of all and thus bring art into homes.
