1945 Mid-Century Modern "Leaning Model" Swedish Vintage Figurative Portrait Oil Painting, Framed

Painted in 1945, this painting is a brilliantly executed mid century modernist figure study, painted in oil onto canvas. There is a wonderful painterly quality to this piece – we get a sense of the artist’s workings, with his black outlines around the figure’s head and body left visible. There is a real focus on the forms in this composition – with planes of colour in angled shapes juxtaposing each other. The artist has used a vivid earthy colours in this figure study, and there is a lovely ageing to the piece which adds to its charming quality. The painting is housed in a beautiful wood and gilt frame with an inner linen slip. There are scattered areas of craquelure to the painting commensurate with age, as shown in close ups the paint layer is very stable overall. The frame is in excellent vintage condition.
