She discovered an attraction to drawing very early on and wanted to become an illustrator. On the advice of her father, she joined the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. She stayed there for two years, and preferred to move towards furniture design by entering the Camondo school. Graduating top of her class in 1952, she did internships with the decorators René-Jean Caillette, where she learned about rattan, then with Maxime Old, her former contemporary decorative art teacher.
