Brutalist wall candelabrum in bronze by Michael Harjes circa 1960.
Exceptional suspension chandelier (ceiling candelabra) or wall chandelier from the Mid-Century Modern era, designed by the famous German sculptor and designer Michael Harjes for his Metallkunst-Werkstatt Harjes workshops. Entirely made of solid cast bronze from a single piece (also known as art or bell bronze), this chandelier features a distinctly brutalist and sculptural style. It consists of 8 light arms with organic and fluid curves ending in sleek candle holders. It is a fully modular and kinetic structure. Thanks to its ingenious central axis, each arm pivots independently. You can configure it symmetrically in a star shape, asymmetrically, or completely flattened to place along a wall. Excellent vintage condition. A few rare signs of oxidation. The entire structure is robust, sound, and heavy. The solid bronze has a beautiful original golden and brown patina, nuanced by time. Ready to be hung. Total height: 61cm Height without the suspension hook: 38cm Open diameter: 39cm Width folded on one side: 22cm Total weight: 5.2kg
