Great 17th century mythological painting, Allegory of Venus and Mars

Cod 01014. French mythological painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a magnificent allegory of venus and mars, of remarkable pictorial quality and monumental dimensions. Immersed in a lush landscape we find the protagonists, venus personified by a beautiful girl who looks at herself in the mirror while mars is stripped of his armor by a whirlwind of cupids. The richness of the draperies, the abundance of figures and the liveliness of the gestures give dynamism to the composition and accentuate the theatrical dimension of the work. 20th century frame in carved, lacquered and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the color in small spots. Overall in good condition. Interior size h 153 X w 120 cm.
