Baby bed in oak and rattan, Scandinavian style, vintage 50s 60s.
This baby bed, made from light oak, belongs to that generation of Nordic furniture which, between 1950 and 1970, brought light and nature into children's rooms. The structure, with its refined simplicity, opens up to panels topped with a lattice pattern that evokes both traditional trellises and the creations of Danish or Swedish designers from the post-war period. The slightly curved posts at the corners rest on tapered legs that lighten the whole and give it an unexpected grace for a piece of furniture intended for childhood. The slatted base, made of light wood and perfectly preserved, reveals a construction designed to last. It is likely a European handcrafted piece, perhaps French or Belgian, inspired by the Scandinavian models that were in vogue in bourgeois interiors at the time. The proportions, slightly more generous than a standard cradle, suggest that it was designed to accompany the child from their first months to their early years. The oak, aged by time, has taken on this honey colour that cannot be replicated; the rattan, slightly softened by the years, retains all its flexibility and strength. A few signs of use, slight marks on the wood, tell a story that one can guess without fully knowing it. The whole is in excellent structural condition, the rattan intact, the wood sound, the base complete and functional. The bed, which is fully dismantlable, can easily be stored without taking up space or moved.
