Oil on canvas by Robert Martin (1925-2001) painted in 1975, titled "Flowers" 65 X 54 cm. "Robert Martin (1925-2001) took methodical classes with the landscape artist Léonce Furt, then entered the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts. A student in the studio of Othon Friesz, then working at the Grande Chaumière, the artist exhibited on the banks of the Seine. In 1947, he was hired by the Louvre restoration workshop. A member of the Salon d'Automne, he was awarded the Villa Abd-el-Tif prize the following year, in 1953. Enticed by Algeria and the fame he had achieved, he extended his stay for two years. In 1958, he joined the Lhote mission to restore the frescoes of Tassili. Of the Adjers. An ardent, virtuoso painter, he imbues his hallucinatory work in the spirit and form with a breath of despair, a pathetic feeling, perhaps "the symbol of Africa" Jean Brune tells us."
