Elegant opal glass pendant lamp designed by Aloys F. Gangkofner for the German glass manufacturer Peill & Putzler. The organically shaped shade is made of white opal glass and features a subtle vertical relief. The relief emphasizes the round shape of the lamp and gives the glass a beautiful layered effect both when switched off and illuminated. When the lamp is on, the opal glass spreads a soft and even light, while the opening at the bottom also provides direct light. Aloys F. Gangkofner was one of the most important German glass designers of the post-war period. His collaboration with Peill & Putzler resulted in an extensive series of sculptural glass fixtures, where traditional glass techniques were translated into modern industrial production.
