Traditional Bakul wedding basket

Traditional Chinese basket Bakul Sia or offering chest from the early 20th century. End of the Qing dynasty. Structure made of fruitwood and thermoformed bamboo, fine rattan weaving elements, and original brass fittings and top handle. Lacquered wood (traditional black and dark red vegetable lacquer) hand-painted, complete set of 3 removable and stackable compartments, 1 lid covering the top tier, a large fixed handle made of woven wood and bamboo securing the structure. Presence of painted poly-lobed cartouches on each level representing a fish (abundance) and birds among floral motifs (marital happiness) In good overall condition.
