Pierre Jeanneret – Rare Paddle Writing Chair for Chandigarh. Made in the 1960s. Constructed from teak and wicker with a superb patina. Made for the Chandigarh project in India. Le Corbusier was responsible for the project, which included all the furniture for the administrative buildings and residential units. Le Corbusier chose Pierre Jeanneret, his cousin and longtime collaborator, to assist him. These chairs were primarily used in classrooms and lecture halls. A magnificent academic piece. Stencilled details on the back of the chair. A superb multipurpose chair, it will fit into any room or simply serve as a sculpture to admire. H. 81.5 cm X W. 65 cm X D. 57 cm. Condition Report: It is in superb condition considering its age and the intensive use of this type of chair (in a public building). The patina of the wood is superb. The wickerwork is in good condition and well stretched. However, this is an older piece, and therefore imperfect. There have been some restorations over the years, visible in the photos, but this in no way detracts from its charm and even helps to demonstrate its authenticity and age. This chair is marked on the back, like many of these chairs of the period. A collector's item for the discerning collector!.
