This armchair was designed by the architect and designer ludwig mies van der roh. It was designed in 1927 for the deutscher werkbund exhibition in stuttgart. This series of "mr" furniture, included chairs, armchairs and tables, including the mr20 armchair. At the time, this architect was active in the bauhaus movement, a german school of art and design that was founded in 1919 and closed in 1933. The bauhaus sought to merge art and craft to promote an approach to design focused on functionality and simplicity, contributing greatly to the modernist movement. In 1930 ludwig mies van der rohe became director of the latter. It is known for its architectural buildings like the seagram building in new york or the german pavilion in barcelona. These creations of pieces of furniture have become iconic like the mr10 chair or the barcelona chair, which have become an emblem of design. The structure of this armchair is in chromed tubular steel, with a cantilevered backrest and two arched armrests. Both the backrest and the seat are covered in the original brown leather.
