Large Napoleon III Gold-Coloured Mirror with Putti and Floral Crest, 1870
An impressive Napoleon III wall mirror from France, made around 1870. The tall arched frame is crowned by a crest with a cartouche, flanked by two seated putti holding garlands of roses, flowers and grapes. On each side a putto sits in a decorative cartouche, and the base ends in elegant scrolled corners. The frame has been fully refreshed with a new gold-coloured finish, which gives it a rich, warm glow again. The old mirror glass has kept its antique character, with spots and foxing that tell its age. With a height of 275 cm this is a true statement piece for a grand hallway, a salon with high ceilings, above a fireplace or in a hotel or restaurant interior. Condition: good, frame refinished; spots and foxing in the old mirror glass. Weight approx. 150 kg.
