Philips Romeo table lamp in grey metal and chrome, Space Age style – 1960s
Philips Romeo table lamp, made in Brussels in the 1960s, in grey lacquered metal and chrome. Its large circular reflector, pierced in the centre and supported by a slender bent stem, gives it a very characteristic saucer silhouette of Space Age design, often associated with the so-called UFO aesthetic today. The model is frequently attributed to Louis Kalff, a major figure in Philips design. His influence on the brand's creations is well documented, but the known archives do not allow for a definitive attribution of the Romeo to his hand. The lamp operates with a silver-tipped E27 bulb, which reflects light towards the inside of the reflector to achieve a softer indirect lighting. The photographed bulb is included. It is in excellent condition, with minor signs of wear and a few slight paint losses visible in the photographs, without any structural defects. It functions perfectly.
