Satsuma Meiji period: Gourd vase in polychrome and gilded ceramic – Decor of Asian figures. Beautiful gourd vase in ceramic, with a double bulge and long cylindrical neck, featuring a very rich polychrome decoration enhanced by significant relief gilding. The body is adorned with figures in traditional Asian costumes, rendered in a strong palette of blue, red, green, brown, and gold. The decoration is particularly intricate, with numerous geometric patterns, scrolls, and stylised ornaments highlighted in gold. The upper part features an abundant floral decoration, accompanied by large circular medallions with a light background. The long neck repeats the geometric and vegetal motifs in the same palette. The reverse of the base bears a red-painted mark in Asian characters. A beautiful decorative piece, remarkable for the density of its decoration and the precious effect of its gilded highlights. Dimensions: height 37 cm – diameter approximately 19 cm. Material: polychrome glazed ceramic. Decoration: figures, flowers, and stylised motifs, with gilded highlights. Condition: generally good condition, with visible glaze cracks and signs of age as seen in the photographs.
