AEY Sugar Bowl Iza, black porcelain, Chodzież

The ‘Iza’ sugar bowl from the Chodzież factory, produced in Poland in the 1970s, is made of porcelain with a deep, saturated black colour and high gloss. Both the body and the lid are adorned with irregular golden applications, applied using the printing technique – they create a dynamic, organic pattern reminiscent of marbling or subtle cracking. A characteristic element is the asymmetrical, upward-curved handle of the lid, also highlighted with a golden detail. The form of the vessel remains compact, with a soft, flowing line and slightly irregular silhouette typical of late modernism and the mid-century modern trend. The porcelain is uniformly smooth, with a glossy finish, and the golden decorations are evenly spread across the surface. Very good condition – no discolouration, losses, or traces of use. This sugar bowl resonates with the bold modernism of the 1960s and 70s, when Polish porcelain sought new means of expression. The deep black shines like a lacquer surface, and the golden ornaments tell of experiments with texture and light. The asymmetrical handle suggests movement, as if the entire form is in constant dialogue with the surroundings – the vessel invites a shared ritual, celebrating everyday life and remembering the times when contrast and touch determined directions in functional design. The ‘Iza’ sugar bowl can be showcased on a modern wooden or steel tray, where it creates a distinct accent against a light tablecloth or minimalist tableware. It fits well in mid-century modern arrangements – next to simple-lined cups or glass vessels in amber tones. It can be paired with a decorative platter or a vase in gold to highlight the preciousness of the applications. It will bring a collector's tone to the living room or dining room, especially alongside other vintage Polish or Central European porcelain.
