Overview. Fine early Biedermeier three-drawer commode veneered in figured cherry, highlighting warm reddish-brown tones and flame figure. Rectangular top with a slightly overhanging edge and the restrained, geometric proportions of the period. Design. Ebonised half-columns flank the front with Corinthian brass capitals and bases. Three horizontal drawers fitted with brass key escutcheons and brass drop handles. Features. Upper flat drawer contains interior compartments for organised storage. Solid cherrywood square legs, straight at the front and slightly curved at the back; brass mounts at the feet. Materials. Cherry veneer over a softwood carcass with brass hardware and mounts; finished with a shellac surface. Dimensions. Width: 115.5 cm. Depth: 58.5 cm. Height: 86 cm. Provenance.
