Set of six chairs model 3100, tripod, known as the “Ant Chair” or “Fourmi,” designed by the famous Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen. Created in the early 1950s, the Fourmi has become one of the great classics of Scandinavian design. Its characteristic organic silhouette is achieved from a molded wood shell, here paired with a slender tubular metal base. These six examples form a beautiful homogeneous set. Each bears the Fritz Hansen marking under the seat, “Made in Denmark,” as well as the date 1970, allowing for precise identification of their edition. The shells have been repainted black during their history. They show signs of use, scratches, and small paint losses consistent with their age. On two chairs, certain wear areas reveal remnants of an old colored finish, red for one and green for the other. The bases also show a slight patina. The overall condition remains good vintage, solid, and perfectly functional. We chose to preserve these marks of time rather than undertake a new restoration, as they contribute to the history of the pieces.
