Gilbert Swimberghe, White Lacquered Wood Relief

White lacquered wood relief by Belgian abstract artist Gilbert Swimberghe , created in Belgium in 1977. The work belongs to his relief period, developed from the late 1960s onward in cardboard and wood, and to the white and grey phase in which he pushed Belgian geometric abstraction toward a more reduced, almost architectural surface. The raised lacquered structure catches light along its edges, shifting the white field into soft grey tones as the viewer moves. Signed and dated on the back. Strong example of post-war Belgian art in good condition.
