The glass bowl designed by Per Lütken for Holmegaard is one of the most recognizable examples of Danish art glass of the 20th century. Lütken, chief designer at the renowned glassworks for more than four decades, created vessels that combine the sensuality of form with superb metallurgical craftsmanship. Soft, organic shapes - often asymmetrical, resembling water drops, waves, leaves or shells. Thick walls and bottoms, creating optical refractions of light. Typical of Lütken, the bowl has gently rounded lines, no sharp edges, and the whole gives the impression of being 'hand formed.' Per Lütken was one of the most important Danish glass designers of the 20th century. He worked at Holmegaard from 1942 to 1998 and designed more than 3, 000 glass models, from glasses to sculptural decorative forms. He was known for his perfection and poetic approach to form, with vessels often resembling nature's forms and pleasing to the touch.
