Antique Chinese rug 1920

Chinese carpet decorated with 5 pentadactyl dragons in search of the sacred pearl. Border of foaming waves. The center is directed by 4 arrows which represent the chinese cardinal points which are five in number. The last, but not least is the center, which is considered as a space, that of the emperor, that of the empire of china (the middle kingdom). Dōng / xī / nán / běi / zhōng east / west / south / north / center dimensions: 200x130 cm condition: good. Patina of use, a wool point visible in the center (see photo).
